If you have an artistic flair and enjoy customising then a large community of toy enthusiasts exist whose ambition is to customize toys. Many custom designed will spend hours adding their own unique touches to original designs or starting from scratch on the blank releases to create never released characters.
By using various forms of modelling materials these talented individuals are able to creat mini masterpieces which can often be found on online auction sites such as eBay where they command prices well into hundreds of pounds depending on the customisation carried out.
Hasbro the makers of Mighty Muggs realised there was such a demand for one off and bespoke versions of Mighty Muggs that they decided to release blank Mighty Muggs for the purpose of encouraging this obsession. This also allowed them to monitor the ideas of the fans and embrace the online community with a solution which allowed individuals to express their unique design skills and put them to good use. If anything the release of the blank versions increased the demand for Mighty Muggs and they are now a collectable set of figures in their own right.
